About Us

Starting in 2024, Charlotte joined the global initiative by hosting its own local NASA Space Apps Challenge event. This local event, spearheaded by the non-profit organization Queen City Robotics Alliance (QCRA), will serve as a central program to promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) careers within the community. Open to participants of all ages, the Charlotte event aims to provide an inclusive and collaborative environment where individuals can work together to solve complex problems and explore new ideas.

Hackathons like the NASA Space Apps Challenge play a crucial role in promoting STEM careers by providing participants with hands-on, immersive experiences that bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application. These events foster a sense of excitement and curiosity around STEM fields, encouraging individuals to explore new technologies and methodologies. By working in teams, participants enhance their collaborative and communication skills, which are essential in any STEM career. Moreover, hackathons often attract mentors and industry experts who provide guidance and share their expertise, offering valuable networking opportunities and insights into potential career paths. The exposure to cutting-edge tools, real-world problems, and the collaborative spirit of hackathons helps demystify STEM careers, making them more accessible and appealing to a broader audience. As a result, hackathons serve as a powerful catalyst for inspiring the next generation of scientists, technologists, engineers, and mathematicians.
